step up for work
Thinking about paid work in the future?
Step up is a free course held in central Southampton aimed to help and inform those who want to move towards paid employment.
The course is held in small groups, led by an experienced and qualified adult learning tutor.
Step up helps learners look closely at what they are good at, what they are able to offer employers and any constrictions they have on working. Together these should help to inform a direction in job searching.
Learners will understand the job seeking process and will be supported in putting together a CV, after which they will learn about employer expectations and contracts of employment.
A large part of the course is devoted to thinking about what are called ‘employability behaviours’. These are the behaviours which make someone a valued employee.
The course will include simple tasks to be carried out independently at home between the sessions.
